Iiiit's that time again!

Garrus just hit 6k! Time for a meme!

ASK A QUESTION, it can be anything CFUD related. OOC, IC, relationship/first impressions, psychology, thoughts, whatever. I.E. My character's opinion of your character (relationships and whatnot) or maybe what you have been wondering about this behavior or that, or general thoughts on my characters or canons, Hot or Not, You Should Jump Me, App My Canon, whatever you want to ask for. WHEN I REPLY, I will also ask you a question in turn!

You can also ask about Anders as well, but he's still sitting at around 700 comments and has some hanging threads :|a I can tl;dr about Dragon Age-y stuff if you want, too.

Garrus sucks at friendship. Tremendously.

First of all, he's more or less hard-wired to size people up by their potential usefulness in a fight and, well, Ema is a cop from pre-extra solar spaceflight Earth. She's a detective; she's not even special ops or anything. Which in his mind makes her barely more than a civilian. And that means if some world-shatting catastophe pops up, she's best suited for keeping non-combatants calm and organized in shelters and not on the battlefield herself. So he was pissed and thickheaded and confused about why she didn't want to go. And he feels bad that he had to cold-cock her, and that he would unquestionably do it again. So he fully expects Ema not to like him anymore! She's not wrong to be angry at him! He wants to just quietly accept this and stew over how he's screws up all his relationships ever. But she hasn't, so he's also sort of paranoid that Ema might have A FEELING for him and oh god all of the embarrassment and please stop hugging me before Mordin makes me watch the vids.

Soon.

OKAY SO EMA HAS A FEELING.

And that Feeling is HARDCORE FRIENDSHIP. Worst human disease ever, man, and she's caught it. Garrus is probably Ema's best friend in camp, in that out of all her harem, she wants to punch him in the face the least. She kind of expects him to do stupidly heroic stuff, so that's okay. Wouldn't be Garrus if he wasn't being nobly suicidal! But she's mad he took away her choice during the big showdown, even if she understands his reasons. Ema is a grown woman! She has skills! LET ME DO MY THING, GARRUS!!! That said, she wouldn't reverse their S. Link because of it. So now she's kind of confused as to why Garrus is constantly doing the Charlie Brown walk. YOU NEED TO LEARN TO FRIENDSHIP, GARRUS.

How many more hugs before Mordin starts throwing pamphlets at us? Do we get an achievement?

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Well we've spoken to each other more than three times, but we didn't try to do each other before the Earth-shattering kaboom happened, so you missed the achievement.

Mordin should be wallpapering our respective cabins until one of us has the awkward "we're just friends" talk.

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-22 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Mordin is one of the few New Guys on the Normandy that Garrus actually trusts and even respects (the others would be Thane and Samara). He is ex-STG and Kirrahe's men impressed Garrus enough to think that salarians can be worth something in a firefight! And Mordin did good work on Omega, which on some level makes them Omega Bros. He killed a lot of Blue Suns in cold blood, which is A++ in his book.

Mordin's smart and someone that Garrus feels he can trust to look to for advice if he needs it. So he's glad to have Mordin in Camp not just because he's a doctor who can actually tend to him in case of emergency, but because he's a good person that Garrus rather likes.

RELATIONSHIP WITH ZEX (if only, sob)

uhhhhhh also... Garrus v. Anders, fisticuffs. WHO WINS?

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-23 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Garrus is inwardly annoyed that ZEX gets into his personal business (aka why are you telling my friends I need hugs :|). Personal issues are a weird line to walk with Garrus because he's like I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT OKAY I'M FINE when he does and he's not.

And as for Garrus v. Anders ... HAHAHAHAHAHA Garrus wins. Anders is such a lightweight and not really good for fistfights, unless he managed to cast rock armor real quick. Then he might last a little bit longer.

reverse relationship at me, ZEX

[identity profile] soviet-catboy.livejournal.com 2011-08-23 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
ZEX has (belatedly) realized that Garrus is a cop and ZEX is military, so of course there're gonna be some things that just don't line up, professionally. Also, ZEX sees Garrus as very flawed with internal scarring as well as external, which makes him sort of dashing in a weird way but on a personal level sort of annoying because he doesn't just do what ZEX tells him to do. Or he wouldn't, if ZEX told him to do things. ZEX tries not to do that because he likes not being headbutted.

All in all, ZEX wants to help Garrus, but that takes a backseat to just... sort of letting Garrus do his own thing. ...Most of the time. If ZEX thinks he's being stupid he'll step in. ("I'M NOT FIT TO LEAD PEOPLE SHOULDN'T TRUST ME MY LIFE IS PAIN" "Just... look, the Detective has boobs. Ponder on those and forget about your drama for one minute, please.") ZEX likes to think that they are bros, but is prepared to give Garrus a verbal smackdown if he tries to push people too far away. FRIENDS ARE GOOD FOR YOU, OFFICER. YOU WILL MAKE FRIENDS. O|

meddlesome tentaclemommy, I don't even know

anyway if that doesn't make sense, I apologize. I'm pretty tired

who should I throw at this Anders fellow, what is he looking for/what is he like, I'm canonblind but there was something about a kitten??

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-23 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
:|a Garrus is honestly more military than cop! For him there's very little difference between the two—It's a turian thing. But, Garrus is ... not a good turian. He gives a certain amount of deference to people in authority, particularly military people, but if he doesn't respect their authority, he doesn't listen to them. He'll blow you off and do his own thing.

Anders is a lazy douchewizard! He enjoys flirting, not getting in trouble, running away, and cats. He plans to take up knitting. His party banter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUg1T1P1bEA&NR=1); and he loves his kitty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGHvVy93dPM&feature=related)

There is a horrible fanfiction version of him in Dragon Age II that someday I will write a big long rant about.

relationship/impressionssss?

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-23 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Garrus likes Jaime! He sadly hasn't 'clicked' with him as much as Ronan, but he knows that Jaime is a Good Kid and he wouldn't mind getting to know him better (like what's up with the super suit). There are a bunch of kids here, and dammit, somebody has to be a responsible adult! So he's more or less taken Jaime and Ronan under his wing as 'his' kids.

reversse?
reachwithin: (You have a very controversial vagina.)

[personal profile] reachwithin 2011-08-23 07:57 am (UTC)(link)
SO Ronan joked and called Garrus "space Batman" during the whole post with the exploding things, but uh the I'm-disappointed-in-you-without-actually-saying-I'm-disappointed-in-you-you-can-do-better-than-this conversation actually did kind of remind Jaime of the Batman he knew a bit ha ha ha. at this point he more or less looks up to him as an authority figure and would be kind of bummed if he did let him down like that -- partially because he seems like an all-around decent guy himself and partially because at times his attitude taken reminds him of people back home.

[identity profile] actualizedname.livejournal.com 2011-08-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
HI GARRUS JAIME SAID I HAD TO TAG.

so relationship meme meeee Garrus and Ronan, and Anders and Hope if there's an impression.

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
HI RONAN.

Alright, so as I mentioned to Jaime! The counselor jobs here may be bullshit but that doesn't mean that Garrus is above looking out for kids, and Ronan and Jaime he's unconsciously claimed as 'his.' He's gonna look out for you two and BE DISAPPOINT AT and proud of your science projects!!! And like, if you guys do call him 'Uncle Garrus' that is actually completely okay with him. I mean, he actually started going by 'Archangel' on Omega, and how dorky is that name?

At first he just saw Ronan as an enterprising kid with a penchant for creating homemade projectiles and/or explosions. As a fan of projectiles and explosions, he couldn't help but be amused because they were more or less keeping it away from the other Campers. And then Ronan jesused at Garrus a bit before dinosaur titties hit the fan and it was a real (Paragon) Shepard moment, which was followed up by Ronan claiming that he 'was' the law during awkward bathtimes. CONCLUSION: RONAN IS THE TINIEST SPECTRE.

So enjoy your snarky hardass new dino-uncle.

[identity profile] awizarddidnt.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
As for Anders and Hope: Anders is really, really happy he's not a l'Cie, although as a Grey Warden he's not that much better off. He doesn't have any problem being 'out' as a mage, but he will keep the FFXIII's casts' secrets.

Also Ronan reverse at me about Garrus, and Hope on Anders if there's any mutual impressions.

[identity profile] tobethemiracle.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
JAIME DIDN'T MENTION THIS but Ronan thinks that Garrus is really cool, not in a Batman way, but in a "he is so awesome and competent and oh god I am crushing on him THIS IS STUPID". Jaime's gotten close to getting this truth out of Ronan, which Ronan is utterly mortified about and refuses to speak about it ever so. Yes. He is never going to tell Garrus because a) embarrassing and b) it interferes with his other opinions of Garrus.

On another level, Ronan thinks that Garrus is really lost in a way that he can't quite put his finger on. He knows that he's a far more hard nosed cynic than Ronan is, he knows that something happened and he knows that there's something profoundly unhappy about him. Ronan's not sure what it is, but he keeps thinking that that is the only way to describe him: profoundly unhappy and lost. He doesn't know what to do about it.

On a third level, Ronan is aware that he is going to hurt Garrus one day. He knows that he will do something in camp that requires his sacrifice. He's aware and has accepted it. But he also knows that Garrus is not aware that being a wizard basically is a self-sacrificial thing, that he will die in service, and typically very young. He's not really sure how to prepare Garrus for it without him flipping out about the idea of a teenager being ready to lay his life down if it means everyone else lives, and he thinks that there isn't a way.

Basically Ronan has opinions that boil down to "Garrus is AWESOME and kind of lost and alone and God, if I die here it is going to mess him up. But he's still cool."

[identity profile] actualizedname.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope, bizarrely, found it almost comforting that mages are kind of discriminated against in a big way where Anders is from. He's found it really disturbing that he comes to camp and everyone is okay with magic or any kind of supernatural powers. It is really disquieting to him, so finding out that there is a place where they're not - despite how depressing that is - is kind of reassuring in a vaguely cynical way. He wasn't sure he was imagining all this because let's face it, the l'Cie in FFXIII are kind of HATED FOREVER etc etc.

He is pretty confident that Anders is not as okay as he first appears. He's not sure what to do about that knowledge, but he's definitely going to keep it a secret that Anders is a mage in case someone comes from his world that doesn't know and flips out.

MY QUESTION IS THIS: what is a Spectre?

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Spectres (Special Tactics and Reconnaissance (http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Spectre)) are an elite group of agents that answer only to the Citadel Council and have a special mandate to preserve Galactic peace at all costs; the law quite literally does not apply to them (unless they do something really bad like, say, allying with genocidal robots and destroying a colony). Garrus wanted to be a Spectre, and was even picked by the turian military to be put into special training and tracked into becoming one, but his dad talked him out of it. Commander Shepard is the first human to be admitted into the Spectres, and that's probably a good 20% of the reason Garrus is so loyal to him/her. What this means for Ronan? That Garrus is going to put his best face forward when it comes to leadership and hope that he doesn't screw Ronan's head up too much :|a

Ronan having to sacrifice himself for the Greater Good wouldn't screw him up as much as one might think? If he understood the whole context of what it means to be a wizard in Ronan's world, then yeah, he would understand. He'd think that it sucks because that's a little young for a human to be doing that, but some things have to be done for the greater good and good people die doing that. But yeah, picking up that Garrus is deeply unhappy and lost is on the ball. I imagine he should be getting some direction in this vague period between games, but I have no clue what that is.

[identity profile] noughtokay.livejournal.com 2011-08-23 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Relationship meeee even though we have only had like three threads because I fail.

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, as far as New Kids on the Normandy goes, Garrus trusts Jack more than the Cerberus crew! He's not a big fan of Miranda, either, but he keeps his mouth shut about it. He's a little torn on how to feel about Jack, because although he understands why she's as damaged as she is ... she's still a convict! A ridiculously dangerous one! If it had been his decision, he'd had left her on Purgatory. But it wasn't his decision, that was Shepard's call, so he's going to look out for Jack because she's crew. And more than that, she proved herself on the suicide mission so his opinion of her has upgraded from "go back to jail (for the good of everyone else)" to "enlist in the Alliance (it would be good for you)."

Reverse at me~! Also I'd like to say that your Jack is amazing and perfect *A*

[identity profile] noughtokay.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
Jack doesn't really trust anyone, of course. Except Shepard, by the end of the game... maybe. But the Normandy crew is still higher up than pretty much anyone else in her life! They have been through a lot of fights together and they've watched her back and haven't turned on her yet and might not anytime soon. (The "yet" never goes away entirely.) Garrus himself reads as cop, which means there's instinctive dislike and distrust there because he could decide she should be imprisoned or punished or whatever at any point. But at the same time... she likes his attitude. |D So while she doesn't respect him and probably wouldn't go out of her way if he was falling off a bridge or anything, and she really does think it's hilarious that he's trapped in a prison camp with her, she does kind of enjoy his company? Especially in camp where they're both in the same situation and it's nice to have someone around with shared experiences. And she did appreciate that he helped her out when she first showed up, because he didn't have to do that. But of course she will never ever acknowledge that appreciation, because she cannot easily accept someone just helping her, or that it was something she even needed.

ALSO THANK YOU ♥ I don't think she's perfect yet by any means because it was an impulse app followed by complete failure to do my planned canon review followed by a two-week hiatus as I moved, but I WILL BE MORE ON TOP OF IT SOON I PROMISE. And also just play her more. Because I love her threads with Garrus.

[identity profile] dont-ingest.livejournal.com 2011-08-24 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yyyeaah, Garrus has trust issues of his own (and is intensely practical) so to say that he actually trust trusts Jack would be wholly inaccurate. But he knows that she acts primarily out of self-preservation and feels like he can generally gauge what she's going to do. With the Cerberus people, he likes the free guns and stuff but wonders when they're going to bite, so to speak.

He is coming to appreciate the way her cynicism cuts down a situation.
